Level 1: Short vowels

Words like cap, bed and sun, sounded out letter by letter. 8-page books, about 3 minutes.

Level 2: Two letters, one sound

sh, ch, th, ng and ck, as in ship, chick and duck. 10-page books.

Level 3: Blends

Sounds side by side, as in frog, stop, jump and tent. 12-page books.

Level 4: Vowel teams

ee, ai, oa, igh, oo, ar and or, as in tree, rain, boat and night. 14-page books.

Each story warms up with its 2–3 tricky words first, then shows the sounds it practises.
